Under Chris’s leadership, Heworth has embarked on several significant mixed-use projects, showcasing his expertise in navigating complex property development challenges.

One of his most notable achievements was his pivotal role in securing the long-awaited development approval for the landmark Balmain Leagues Club project, comprising a 28,000m2 mixed use development with over 150 luxury residential apartments, a state-of-the-art clubspace, full line supermarket, new village square and specialty retail throughout. This accomplishment not only showcased his ability to overcome intricate regulatory and planning challenges but also his commitment to fostering developments that benefit the community and contribute to the urban fabric.

Chris is also currently leading Heworth through complex litigation against the New South Wales (NSW) government concerning the acquisition of the Balmain Leagues club site for the Western Harbour Tunnel infrastructure project. His commitment to honesty and transparency highlighted significant concerns about Transport for NSW’s use of compulsory acquisition powers and their conduct during the acquisition negotiation and subsequent rescission process. Chris has presented key evidence at a parliamentary inquiry into Transport’s behaviour as an acquiring authority for land acquisitions on major road projects in NSW.

Furthermore, Chris was heavily involved in securing gateway approval for a 25-storey mixed-use residential and commercial development in the Chatswood CBD. This project, anticipated to commence in 2024, underscores his ability to drive forward large-scale developments that contribute positively to the urban landscape.
